Low-poly, simulation-ready assets of a Mk 84 bomb and GBU-31 JDAM.
----------
The Mark 84 - or BLU-117 - is an American general-purpose bomb and the largest of the Mark 80 series of weapons. It entered service during the Vietnam War and is still the sixth largest bomb in the US inventory.
Many Mk 84 bombs have been retrofitted with various different fuses, stabilisation fins, and guidance kits. The Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) is one such guidance kit that converts the "dumb" bomb into an all-weather, precision-guided munition - in this case turning a Mk 84 into a GBU-31. JDAM-equipped bombs are guided by an integrated inertial guidance system coupled to a GPS receiver. The benefit of GPS over older laser- and infrared-guided weapons is that it isn't hindered by weather conditions and, in the case of static targets, can have its targeting coordinates inputted before a mission even begins.
